That’s probably the best way to describe our collective initial response to the panel discussion that was going on. But, our silly critiques were later dismantled by the moderator who let us know that there were simply no women or p.o.c present because, “they were all at home taking care of children.” He later remarked, “I’m sorry, but that’s just the way the world works.”

With that said, we did learn some new information about single payer universal health care and why it’s legit the best option (way better that public option). To find out more, check out https://madashelldoctorstour.com/

The folks from our group were there to represent. We made awesome flyer/booklets and passed them out, and with the help of  two of our comrades, we plastered the UIC campus, Center on Halsted, and Lincoln Park.

Audio Documentary Piece – Shame, Secrecy & Family

The following audio documentary piece is hopefully going to be part of an ongoing set of recordings I have with my friends and family members. This first one is with my grandmother. She’s a woman who raised me alongside my mother and aunt. She recently fell down a flight of stairs and broke her neck, and hip. She can walk again, but the bleeding on her brain caused her dementia to go from the early stages to the late stages overnight. The shame and secrecy so prevalent amongst my family members when it comes to the surgeries that went on with me when I was an infant, a toddler, and again when I was 11 really come through in the way we can hardly have a conversation about it in this audio piece. It’s the first times she’s ever really openly tried to talk to me about any of this…
